But that's not what the 1932 letter stated.  It said nothing about monthly
debt to income ratio or anything that you'd recognize from the introductory
Finance 101 course.

My point is that a general statement like the one in 1932 statement should
be taken with a grain of salt as the society has changed considerably.
People back in 1930's were not so heavily loaded with debts as we're in
2003.  The whole economic profile has changed, and has changed
dramatically.

Dear Ahang,

I've never taken it to me that we pay off all our loans entirely before
giving to the fund. I take it to mean that we make our loan payments before
such contributions. In the US we all have debts but we usually pay them
off.
