It has come to my attention that certain highly positioned and influencial
parties that are well known and well respected for their service to King and
country have brought allegations against you. The allegations contend that
you accepted a sum of monies from the coffers of the Cardinal's Guards in
exchange for showing up to be commissioned as a Cardinal's Guard and were to
report to the front lines immediately. However, the allegations continue to
say that you did not show up to be commissioned and did not show up at the
front lines as you had given your word as a gentleman you would. In
addition, it appears you also were seen about town try to woo the
illustrious mistress of said noteable party.
How do you respond to these allegations? The King's Musketeers, while we
have no fondness for the men of the Cardinal's Guards do respect their
ability to wage war and generally accord themselves as gentlemen, are not
given to pinning commissions onto those who are not gentlemen. We, of the
King's Musketeers, are His Majesty's troops and therefore most comport
ourselves as such.
In so much as these allegations do exist, I can not support a commission for
you in the King's Musketeers and will have to decline an invitation to your
party during the first week of Sept. at this time.
