Objet : [HackIt Bar] [Article] Autonomy & Management

Hi,

A good article to get started with a discussion about "management":

http://whatmattersblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/autonomy.html

"Management is great if you want people to comply – to do specific things a
certain way. But it stinks if you want people to engage – to think big or give
the world something it didn’t know it was missing. For creative, complex,
conceptual challenges – i.e, what most of us now do for a living—40 years of
research in behavioral science and human motivation says that self-direction
works better. And that requires autonomy. Lots of it."

[David] read it, yep, makes sense

So, how much guidance do we want to have? What do we want to import from
managment principles, what don't we want to see?

I see a few things that I would still like to have in Politis:

*       Performance reviews
* Objectives (project, team, individual) & roadmap
*       Personal development
*       121s
* Management as a service - providing support (help to define/obtain
what/when/how/whom)

[David] We can definitely start with that, what would be the first step to
implement according to you ?

By the way, what is 121 ? I googled it and found many interesting results
related to code of federal regulation in aviation (part 121 = scheduled airline
service) or the year CXXI of the Julian calendar, but all of this is not what
you refer to I guess J
