Thanks Deborah, looks really cool! I really like the feeling it gives -
it's very fresh and modern, colorful, and at the same time it remains
quite simple. Very well done!
Now for the details of the comments and my usual nipicking :D
* I like the choice of colors, the blue, green and white (and the
red from the picture) mix perfectly, and it's good to look at it
* [Content page] The black text on the blue background doesn't
work that well though - it's less readable than the rest of the
text on the website
* [Home page] A few things don't respect the mockup - for example,
it's missing the news items, the top contributors, the latest
forum posts, the list of links at the bottom, the
Copyleft/licenses mention... Can you have a look at it and make
changes accordingly? (we should also get the news items on the
content pages btw, as well as the footer elements)
* [Home page] The white blocks below
"Project"/"Company"/"References" don't work very well - it gives
an unfinished/broken feeling. Actually, I think you can remove
the list of sections from there (Overview of hackit, production
follow-up, etc.), as it adds a lot of information, and it's
something we want to hide a little from the homepage - the
visitors should be primarily directed toward the game /
studio /participate sections.
* [Home page] Same remark about the links below the "quick links"
section. The fact that it's directly on the background picture
background doesn't work very well - it gives the same unfinished
feeling.
* The choice of font is good imho - it's very readable (which will
be important for documents that have huge block of text) and
having black text on white background
* [Content page] "Quick links" and "Follow us" need to be
positioned higher on the page - they should be quickly
accessible, without having to scroll down
* [Content page] I love the design of the text headers. It would
be good to have template for different subsection levels - look
at this page for example
http://community.hackit.cx/wiki/Sims_3_Gameplay , you have three
different level of section headers (on some pages it goes as far
as 4 or 5)
* [Content page] Same thing for other markup elements, like bullet
point lists or pre-formatted text (see a complete list of the
markup elements on this page -
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Formatting )
* [Content page] Due to the way the pages are structured, we can't
have "holes" or between sections (for example between "Overview
of the game" and "Production follow-up") - so you will need to
fill with the same white background.
* [Content page] In the body of the text, you differentiate links
by putting them in bold - it will create confusion, as it's also
possible to put some text in bold, even if it's not a link. So
you will need to find another way to differentiate the links
there
* [Content page] Very cool to put the "Contents" list on the right
- it will help a lot with readability, especially for big pages
that have a huge list of sections
* [Content page] I forgot about this in the mockup, but we'll need
to fit the "Page" "Discussion" "Edit" "History" etc. links found
at the top of every article in the current design of the wiki -
you don't need to make them too visible, but they need to be
easily accessible without scrolling
* [Content page] Same thing with the links just below every
article, ie "What links here" "Related changes" "Upload file"
etc. They can be hidden at the bottom, it's ok (they are more
rarely used). We should also keep the "Powered by mediawiki"
there and you should also add a "Design by tartaruga feliz" link
- it's customary in Free Software :D
* [Content page] The left border of the white boxes for the
content look a bit messy - especially, think about the fact that
this border will have to be repeated vertically, especially for
very long documents
* On both pages, the rest of the links are not differentiated at
all from the rest of the text - it's important for usability to
make sure they are
* In "Follow us", it's missing an input field and a OK button for
"news by email", to allow to quickly subscribe
* It would be good to add the corresponding icons next to the
Follow us items - RSS, twitter, facebook, email...
* It's missing the search field
Good luck with the changes, Jim! :D
Xavier.
