I
spent a week or so to see what it would take to use Batik on less than a Java
1.2 system . You will not be able to use Batik without Java2D. All
the other functions can more or less be written, but without Java2D, you will
not be able to display anything. The two main packages that are missing
classes are java.awt and java.util. You can browse the batik-dev for
some of my emails. I don't want to discourage you from trying, because I
would love to have it work on a handheld, but I would hate for you to spend
a week to come to the same conclusion as I did.
BTW,
you can run Batik on an iPAQ with the Linux dist. from handhelds.org and the
Blackdown JRE 1.3.1.
Oh, I
also looked into GCJ, kaffe and some other J2ME implementations, all of
them where missing Java2D.
Good
luck,
Anthony Mills
