At 10:06a +0800 07/17/2006, Peter N Lewis didst inscribe upon an electronic papyrus:

For just stripping the formatting, you can use this neat script in your system scripts menu:

#!/bin/sh

pbpaste | pbcopy

Roughly equivalent to BBEdit New With Clipboard, Select All, Copy, Close without Saving.

Cool. How did you discover those commands?
They don't seem to even have a man page. How did you know a pipe was necessary?

How can we find other stuff like that?

They do have man pages (at least for me they do).

They are in /usr/bin, so I guess you could learn more about tools by listing that directory.

The pipe is to send just the text of the clipboard from pbpaste through to pbcopy where it is put back on the clipboard, now with just plain text.

Enjoy,
   Peter.
