I've ended up with the kinds of workflow that mean no-one could possibly follow
them using things like the 'extra' menus and capabilites of BBEdit. The thing
about this is that I can do stuff other people only dream of (referring to the
Word and Eudora crowd I work with, bless'em).

The downside of using BBEdit for ten years is that on the rare occasions I have
to, I now have no idea how to work with Word. It's like herding cats with your
eyes shut and standing on a log in a river.

I spent 20 minutes working out how to change the colour of some text in a Word
document today. Because I have to edit some work stuff in Word, I am seriously
considering doing a 'training day' on Word because no-one can believe I don't
know how to use it ('and you say you know how to use computers!')

You may be interested to know that using iListen to issue commands in
Applescript makes for some really creative workflows, my favourite being 'new
file from selection in same path' which means I just type out the name of a new
file I want in a window I'm in, and it creates a file with that name in the
same folder. This sounds trivial but is probably the reason I don't use
Devonthink or Yojimbo much, because it's so easy to have folders with a
hierarchy that is easy (I hardly ever use the 'save' dialog which seems really
clunky now, across the OS).

If anyone's interested, here's the script. I seem to remember this (or the
scripting list) writing the difficult bits, as usual (I got the lines
containing 'tell app...' and 'end...' on my own)

tell application "BBEdit"

    activate
set myFileName to selection as string
cut selection -- remove this if you don't want the selection (file name)
removed

set filePath to file of window 1

tell application "Finder" to set fileContainer to container of filePath as
string

set myFilePath to fileContainer & myFileName
    make new window
save active document of window 1 to file myFilePath

end tell
