Yes, of course, HTML files are text files. Nevertheless, it should

Resolved.
I am a front-end Web designer. I use (x)html/css as you can see if
you visit my signature link. In the many replies to my post, it has
become obvious that my question is not understood; and, more
important, that BBEdit is simply not what I seek in an editor.
Thank you for your time and effort on my behalf.

David,
We understand your question. I think it is you who doesn't
understand your own query. If you want a browser to open a
particular file, we've illustrated how that is acheived. If you want
BBEdit to be the default editor (as you indicated in your original
post), then you now also know how the computer functions, and how you
can take advantage of it.
You may find it just as easy, since you are a web designer and
accustomed to a GUI, to assign .html, .htm, or whatever your chosen
suffix map is, to open within a browser. Then, if you need to edit
the file and it frustrates you that you cannot double-click on it to
have BBEdit open the file, you can add BBEdit to your dock, then drag
your file(s) on to the icon for BBEdit to open the files.
You may also find that you are better off using Dreamweaver, GoLive
or perhaps PageMill for your coding needs. It's nothing to be
embarrassed about -- you are a designer, not a programmer. All of
the mechanizations behind the scenes that go into creating pretty web
sites can only be frustrating as such.
We here will go to great lengths to assist anyone with a question.
Until that individual takes us to task for attempting to help --
playing blueblood with this or any audience is less-than-productive.
Good luck with your endeavors.
