Shell worksheets - inspired by MPW which died with OS neXt - are peculiar indeed. In fact they are not legitimate TEXT files because they have mixed line ends which are violently unsupported by BBEdit. They are essentially plist files with unix line ends with the meat of the file enclosed in a single xml tag. Within that tag the line ends are Mac return characters. TextEdit will allow you to view them. It wasn't always that way and it was once possible to execute a BBEdit worksheet and that was useful. Back in MPW I used to place things like #ifdef nonsense gcc this file link this library exit #endif in the front of a C source file. It was downright useful because I could just execute the source file and effect a poor man's "make" for simple things like X commands for Hypercard or MS Excel. No more. Sigh. My '82 Jeep still runs fine on real highways.
