I am almost ready to write to the Linux Kernel Mailing List about this problem, 
but a couple of
things to check.

(1) Have you reset the BIOS to the default values? If your BIOS is like mine, 
there aren't many
things to be set, but something could have been corrupted.

(2) If #1 didn't help, we should probably consider reflashing the BIOS.
