I agree that this is an ASUS-specific issue; however, as I have been 
chastised about too much speculation over this problem, I have to be 
careful. My one question is as follows: If the problem were to be due 
to the contents of the SPROM, or even the radio used by the chip, how 
does bcm43xx manage to make it work when b43 cannot?
