- completely correct.
BUT, that is not the issue here. the issue here is
about the kind of crap talk that always seems to come around instead of actual
technicalt facts or benefits.
yes
windows Does have security issues. Historically windows was not developed with
secuirty as the prime concern - win 9x line of systems was Sad in this respect
with zero memory access protection, with some careful tinkering i can make
this code for(jnt i =0;i<100;i++) loop a ~65 thousand
times during runtime.
Now MS is taking this folly into serious consideration -
about time. Yes.
BUT, the issue here is that we accept it and we Care
to do something about it. We DO NOT make it an advertsising issue to flaunt
others limitations as our merits. We DO NOT pretend to have no faults, we do NOT
undermine others efforts if they do it in the spirit of fair competition. Have
you seen the way DotGNU adevtises itself ? let me quote :
<snip>
"The GNU project
is about making sure that computer users have certain important freedoms. If you
use GNU/Linux today, you have these freedoms on a single computer. Generally
speaking, the internet is also a place of freedom, because it is built on open
protocols which are not in any way patent-encumbered, and which are generally
implemented in Free Software. However, this freedom is threatened
now by a monopolistic company which wants to catch us all in their dotNET. Read
this warning written in 1896.
The DotGNU project is the response of
the Free Software movement. We want to have technological leadership in the
webservices arena while at the same time making our system compatible with
dotNET so that businesses can migrate to DotGNU without much trouble. The main
objective is to have a system that truly belongs to the developers, which is not
in any way controlled by a profit-oriented monopolistic company.
DotGNU could be called an
"operating system for the internet" - it's a collection of tools that allow
software components to interact with each other over the internet. The most
impressive parts are currently: "

these
are the guys who ar eteh technoilogists of teh future - we are under threat ,
therefore use our software, we are doing this for your freedom therefore use our
software, or software is lame, hogs memory, is copied from everyone else but
since they are all evil use our software.
I have always as an Individual felt that there si space for both systems
- btu there should be - from one enthusisat to another A Sense of Respect for
good work rather than mindless bickering to self Aggrandise your
bigotry.
They dont give us that - and I (as an individual mind). I dont sling
anything back for the way that man says M$, why CANT the courtesy be
returned.
Let me
show you this, this was 'paper' by a 'researcher' that was wildly ppublicised
when windows got the security rating. This man is form John Hopkins Univ, part
of the Eros reaseach team. (Have you seen that project ?) what do these guys
have to do with linux ? no, but at the time they were all one, one community one
this one that ... and now he mails that red hat is more secure that
someother distribution of teh same thing and claims the reluctance to go
for a security rating as a plus. Now you cant even hold together, when there is
blame to distribute, as even one OS ?
let me quote from
this "gentleman's" "paper" :
"Translating that into colloquial English:
Don't hook this to the internet, don't run email, don't install software
unless you can 100% trust the developer, and if anybody who works for you turns
out to be out to get you you are toast. "
So now that linux didnt
get approved at the same level how shall we rewrite this for linux ? Do we see
Craig Mundie or dave Stutz or Don Box or our Deepak doing this ?
That is
the issue here - Lack of Respect - i feel fear that these bigots are one day
going to rule computing. now when they have every way to look and copy they are
doing a shoddy job, what is there is nothing left to copy ? I am afraid.
and
Anger is Fear
