----------------------------------------------------------- From: Sitaraman Message 18 in Discussion Exactly Star!!! By quoting MS that "We have taken Unix as a benchmark for developing Win Servers" . you have just proved my point that 1. "When MS markets a product they basically sell it on the basis of the strengths of THEIR product" 2. "constant and consistent effort to better their own products and making our lives easier" and they are professional enough to emulate the best features of even a rival product(which makes a lot of sense...) Hope this doesnt start another accusation that MS copies features from other products(DOS, Mac->Windows et al...). Even Java has so many features of that were present in MS products As i always argue at my work place, all vendors do try to improvise their products based on the features of rival products. To quote a mail that i had written to Rosh "The *NIX system is rock stable, highly reliable and i have always admired the jokers who created it. They have set standards which every OS Vendor can look up at and try to improvise their own systems. wat irritates is that these guys never look at MS with the same view. Positive criticism is definitely good. But criticism, just for the heck of it(and the fact that MS IS working towards being recognised as a secure system is threatening their very existence), is pretty stupid and useless..." MS would do well to place *Nix as a benchmark for Server Stability, availability and reliability(and ultimately the confidence of the community) Wat irritates me is that When Microsoft emulates a feature of a existing product, people(read Non-MS Vendors) say "Microsoft copies other products to make their own products" When Non-MS guys like *un do the same thing, it becomes "*un has a very good habit of picking up and adapting to the latest Industry Standards and practices" !!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!! So i feel that spark was not attacking *Nix or other products, but only these double standards and the slighted way of assessing a MS v/s a Non-MS product. And to do justice, neither do i think that Sumit was attacking MS. He was just supporting RH Linux features and was comparing RH Linux with the features of other flavors of Linux. Not a single word in his post attacks MS(and do note i believe he is extremely competent in .Net too, given his previous posts on this site ). So on the whole this was a very positive discussion in my view and this is the reason why i suggested that this thread keep flowing. :) regards, sr ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/BDotNet/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
