The actual release has the same features as beta .210+, but it uses about 2x
the battery!
Everything seems to work (as it did with my last beta), but the battery is
drained really fast. Previously I would get about 1.5 to 2 days out of a
charge, but with this update it only lasts about 10-12 hours.

For me it's not enough to justify calling it a leap from 4.x to 5.0, I agree
though that this release turns the Storm into something it arguably should have
been :)

5.0 for the Storm is a HUGE improvement over 4.6.

Also of note... BBM 5 is not included int he OS installer... You need to
download it from
www.blackberry.com/messenger<http://www.blackberry.com/messenger> after the
upgrade.

When you say "loads different" are you implying the upgrade procedure is
different, or that the users will be getting all the lovely new features (I say
that very tongue in cheek) of OS 5.0? Because as far as I can see, neither is
true. YMMV though.

For those of you that have user-owned BBs, are you going to be doing the OS
update? The update (see thoughts below) is LOADS different from other updates.
I'm reluctant to publish this on BES! Below is an email (modified) that was
sent to 'The Boss' last night.

Be aware that the install will disconnect you from the Blackberry Enterprise
Server (BES), and that you will have to reactivate when the upgrade has
completed (instructions at the bottom of this e-mail).
I can give you a password that is good for up to 48 hours when you are ready.
Although on my first test on this I noticed that I was disconnected from BES (I
sent a wipe command to my phone from BAS), then after the new 5.0 OS was
installed, BB rebooted and then 10 minutes later EA had completed. Thought
this was kind of weird as I did send a wipe/disable to it as I mentioned
earlier. Anyways, that's another ball of wax as I digress.

Requirements:
Need to have the "Desktop Manager" software installed on the pc where the
upgrade will take place.
The Desktop Manager software needs to be closed and the device "Not"
attached/tethered to the pc.

Run the executable shown below, it will have you reboot when finished - takes @
10-15 mins.

After the reboot, open up the Desktop Manager software and select "Application
Loader"

Then select "Update Software" ... it will find the new 5.0 upgrade and start
upgrading.
You will have an option, which I chose, to backup your data and restore upon
upgrading - takes @ 15-20 mins.
The Activation process should take @10-15 mins

Notes:
The device software will want you to install 5.1 desktop software - the 4.7
seemed to have worked just fine if you don't want to wait for the 304MB
download for 5.1 desktop
