(also relevant to the Subject: "[jbeta] j801 various")

Thanks again to Bill and Chris. Sorry to have asked the wrong questions.

I've written the odd user-instructions in my time - though for nothing like your size of user-base - and suggest that there is nearly always a communication problem since the author knows pretty well everything - how it all works and what names mean and so on - whereas the user knows less, might think he knows some things and is probably wrong, doesn't want to know everything, etc etc. So while following your on-line instructions is fine, one doesn't necessarily always understand what one is being told!

Anyway, thanks for these changes promised and now delivered by Chris and his colleagues, under the Subject [jbeta] j801 various, which do now work for me, apart from 6 on which he was only able to comment as shown.
Chris said:

   "0) behaves like J6
   1) ditto
   1a) Yes
   2) there is a new config entry: FontWeight (normal or bold)
   6) this needs to be done in conjunction with syntax highlighting. Help
   would be appreciated on both.
   7) ConfirmClose, ConfirmSave and EscClose should work. Please test as it is
   hard to get these right."

Bill implies that work is being/will be done on my points 3-5.

The prompt for what ya pisal yesterday was Bill's advice to Fraser Jackson specifying the file-sizes he should expect. I'd assumed they would apply in general for Windows 32 machines, and so I reported mine as different, but Bill says I should ignore this information.

Perhaps you'll bear with my observing that
   install'qtide' NB. in Jconsole
appears not to inform the user whether the existing binaries etc are up-to-date or not, so it is difficult to know one's status vis-a-vis the latest versions available online. For example, I tried running this expression twice in one session in Jconsole. Here is an "edit/mark" of the dialogue:

   install'qtide'
   Updating server catalog...
   Installing 1 package
   Downloading base library...
   Installing base library...
   Done.
   Installing JQt binaries...
   Finished install of jqt binaries.
exit and restart J using jqt.cmd
       install'qtide'
   Updating server catalog...
   Installing 1 package
   Downloading base library...
   Installing base library...
   Done.
   Installing JQt binaries...
   Finished install of jqt binaries.
exit and restart J using jqt.cmd

Yes, Bill, I can run qt ide after (re)installation

Thanks again

Mike

You can ignore the sizes of jqt.exe/jgt.dll and just follow the
instructions in the webpage. After install 'qtide', you can exit
the jconsole and start jqt by running the jqt.cmd (for
windows)

Can you run the qt ide after installation?

I'm getting confused again.
I have the following
$ ls -al *.dll
-rwxrwxrwa 1 samsung-laptop\mike samsung-laptop\None 1662976 Mar 17
19:59 j.dll
-rwxrwxrwa 1 samsung-laptop\mike samsung-laptop\None 1689088 Mar 23
10:55 jqt.dll
$ ls -al *.exe
-rwxrwxrwa 1 samsung-laptop\mike samsung-laptop\None 155648 Mar 17
19:59 jconsole.exe
-rwxrwxrwa 1 samsung-laptop\mike samsung-laptop\None 155648 Mar 23
10:56 jqt.exe
$ pwd
D:/j801/bin

I had just located and downloaded the zip file j801a_win32.zip which
does not contain jqt.dll, nor jqt.exe
Where are these two files to be found when we need them? Is that
what install 'qtide' does - it's not clear to me what's happening
when I do that.

I suppose I'm being obtuse - we say "thick" here! - but despite all
the help and faq sprinkled around it's not too obvious what needs
doing when.

Thanks again for all help and advice,

Mike
