It looks like something is happening inside J on Tiger.
The RectPos Java applet shows correct rectangle
in all environments: applet, console Java 5 and Java 1.4.2.
(top dot visible, bottom covered) equivalent of

However, on the same Mac OS X 10.4.7 machine,
J program shows raised (shifted up 1 pixel) rectangle
(top dots covered, bottom visible).
