The reason a non-admin user can't run J from Applications is a permission
problem (some files are missing group and other read permission) that will be fixed in the next release. A workaround you could test:

from an admin account:

....$ cd /Applications/j602
....$ chmod -R go+r *

I would like to continue to campaign for j602-user to be located
in ~/Documents/ in Mac OSX.

Location of profile.ijs is fine where it is in j602/bin/. Seems
easy to arrange a custom profile for the system.

There is some problem with an administrator dropping j602.app into
the /Applications/ folder. It works fine for other admin users, but
a non-admin user gets "... cannot open the application "j602" because
it may be damaged or incomplete" --- Running from the .dmg or j602
folder in the non-admin's session works fine.

The symbolic link to jconsole works for admin or non-admin users
from a Terminal session (nice).

My main complaint/annoyance is that when I do Command(apple)Q, I'm
asked to verify that I want to quit. I don't like to be asked ...
By the way, in j601 that worked the way I want as an admin user, but
non-admin users are asked to verify -- this may have some connection
to 602 not working for non-admin users when in /Applications/.

The new j icon is very pretty, but a little big (maybe that is good :)

Things are looking very nice, minor tweaks would make it even nicer.

User profile is not terribly inaccessibly, however "My Documents"
would probably be better.
Especially for relocated My Documents,
which is often mapped to share in corporate setting,
and can be directly changed by user in Explorer.

My Documents means that user can open those files directly from Explorer
and other apps easily.

In addition, for all platforms it makes sense to provide
two Open items in File menu:
   Open System ...
Open User ... or just Open ...
