I agree that the disruption to established users in this release is a
nuisance. I think that it the long run it is for the general good.
For particular problem you can simply remove the j602 folder level when you
want to change an install to be your production install.
Or you could rename the jxxx to be jproduction and use jproduction hardwired
in all your shortcuts.
Or, for maximum flexibility you could have your shortcuts run
C:\jproduction.bat and then all you have to do to switch systems is to edit
the bat file to have the correct c:\j\jxxx\bin.exe.
In unix this kind of problem is dealt with by symlinks. The bat idea is a
simple variant on this that works in windows.

Subject: RE: [Jbeta] I select a folder, but it installs into a subfolder
I have shortcuts on dozens of machines that launch my applications.
The shortcut starts C:\J\j.exe. Obviously, I don't want to have
to go around changing all the shortcuts every time a new release
comes along, so I always install J into C:\J (or C:\Jbeta while
testing - I have shortcuts for that too).
It hurts that you are moving j.exe to \bin, as I will have to
update the shortcuts to reflect that. But I have hope that
you won't be changing the directory structure every release, so
I would still like to be able to give the root folder name.
Agreed that 'at some point the J System needs to dictate
folder names', I just don't see why this point should be the J root
folder. The code seems to work with the folder moved, so why not
put it where I tell you to?
I guess the point is that you envision a setup where users have
j601, j602, etc directories, and that's just not how I want to run.

This is the intended behaviour.
At some point the J System needs to dictate the folder names.
You don't ask
to change bin or system or main or extras. The J folders are
rooted in j602.
Why isn't C:\J\j602 adequate for your requirements?
Presumably, eventually
you would add C:\J\j603 alongside j602.
