I'll take your word for it that the \bin directory is best in
the long run.  You're usually right about stuff like that.

And, I'm glad that I can rename J\j602 to J\ and expect it
to work.

But I want to go back to the original point: why should I
have to go to that trouble?  I'm installing J on about 50
machines - why should I have an extra step to go through?

you ask me where I want the folder to go, and I tell you.
If the system will work in the folder I give you, why
wouldn't you just use that folder?  You are costing me
a significant amount of time, for zero gain as far as I
can tell.  Am I missing something?

The .bat file might work out, as long as it doesn't leave a
window up, & I'll look into it; but I think my point still
stands.  I'd rather not have to edit a bat file on every machine.
