Current issues with GTK IDE:

        1. I am still not getting syntax highlighting
            (anywhere; neither IJX nor IJS).

        2. When I launch an IJS (using CTRL+N), I get these
            messages in jconsole:

                (jconsole.exe:5584): Gtk-CRITICAL **:
                gtk_text_buffer_move_mark: assertion
                `GTK_IS_TEXT_MARK (mark)' failed
                (jconsole.exe:5584): Gtk-CRITICAL **:
                gtk_text_view_scroll_to_mark: assertion
                `GTK_IS_TEXT_MARK (mark)' failed

        3. When I close the IJS window, I get a GTK
            dialog containing the following:

                Unable to create snapshot directory:

                ~snap/.snp/201533c2bd166144a00e0137fb75d41f9b57e096/p101
                122

        4. The IJX doesn't scroll to the bottom automatically. For
            example, when I type:
                   SystemFolders_j_, UserFolders_j_
then I have to scroll down manually to see the output & get
            to the new input line.

In re: (1), I would appreciate this Forum's advice. In re: (2) and (3),
I am having the same symptoms as Ric reports in [1] , in particular,
using Edit>Configure>Folders and manually adding

                snap ~temp/snap

seems to resolve (3), but obviously that shouldn't be necessary. And
though I see previous reports of (2) in the Forums, I don't see any
suggested resolutions (though Chris notes in [2] that all GTK errors are
bugs and should be reported).

I give my installation methodology & platform information in the
postscript, in case it's necessary for debugging. And also honestly
because I can't find all these steps listed in one place elsewhere, and
that's a hindrance to trying out J7.

I will be quite vocal if the released J7 takes this much work to get
going (by "get going" I mean "to use a GUI IDE").

Actually, while I'm on the topic, items (D) and (E) from the
installation postscript probably represent issues with J7 proper (as
opposed to the GTK IDE), specifically:

        5. When selecting a "System" install on a Win64 system, J
should install itself under "Program Files", not "Program
Files x86", and/or should allow me to change the default
            directory.

        6. Given that the initial 'status' jpkg '' on a virgin install
            gave:

                No addons are installed.

I assume JHS also isn't included in the download by default?
            Is that intentional?

And, while I'm at it:

        7. There is still no help installed.

[1] Ric reports syntax highlighting issues and GTK_IS_TEXT_MARK error:

[2] Chris: "Note, any gtk error messages are bugs, please report them."

PS: I installed J7 & the GTK IDE by following Ric & Bill's advice:

        A. Running as an Administrator throughout.

        B. On my Windows 7, 64-bit machine, removed all traces of
            previous J7s.

        C. Downloaded J701abeta for Win64 from jsoftware.com.
            http://jsoftware.com/download/j701abeta_win64.exe .

        D. Installed it as "System" under Program Files

                a. When I selected "System install", J incorrectly put
                    itself at C:\Program Files (x86)\j64-701 and didn't
give me the choice to change locations.

                b. I manually moved this to C:\Program Files\J701abeta
as "Program Files" is the appropriate root for
native 64-bit programs; "... (x86)" is for legacy
                    32-bit programs. "J701abeta" instead of "j64-701"
                    is just my preference.

                c. I updated all the icons J installed to point to this
                    new directory.

                d. After that, J didn't seem to mind this change, and
                    appropriately reported C:\Program Files\J701abeta
                    for jpath'~install'

        E. Started jconsole, and installed and updated the base library
