You can also have menu items for things not installed, where selecting that option when its not installed will install it. When selecting the item, the user might get a submenu with a "check for updates" option for the first entry and with the newly installed options appearing underneath it. Or the current "full page" approach could also work, but a "check for updates" option on the page itself might be good for lowering the barrier to entry. That said, the top level menu perhaps could be reorganized. Labs and Demos might be worthy of being put under "Help" rather than getting their own top level menu option. And, the "Links" menu option should probably always be at the far left, so it does not jump around. And perhaps other changes could also be improvements.
