Charles and Bill especially, Hold on a few minutes. I have it working somehow, but I cannot be exactly sure how and under what conditions. Give me a little while to try some things.
What seems to have happened is that I launch Gimp once, instead of launching only X11. And it worked. So I quit Gimp and tried just launching X11, expecting it Not to work, but it worked again. So now I am wondering if the Gimp resources hang around even after X11 is quit and is the only way to cleans the Gimp resources to shut down the Mac. So I am getting ready to shutdown the Mac and start again. (maybe that's what Bill meant when he said "just start computer"?)
