I had tried syncing my softsqueeze to my squeezebox (the other way around) a while back after the changes were announced and it seemed to work for me. It picked up in the middle of a song, etc. and seemed to be in sync. I didn't use it for long (the stereo is in the same room as the computer so I don't need it for regular operation).
Look in the Recan Music Library option under Home in the Server Setting for a way to schedule rescans.
