What you're describing sounds different -- or at least a special case -- of what I'm seeing. The two albums are clearly in different directories, so SC should recognize them as different. Interleaving them is definitely not right.
But when you turn on VA, are you getting all your VA albums when you browse by genre? Or are you only getting this albums that have the same name as an album that belongs to the genre you're browsing? I searched bugzilla and couldn't find a bug for this under SC7.
