I agree that that would be useful for scanning through gapless tracks.  I would 
think it would be possible for single music files that are split into tracks 
via .cue sheets.

There already is acceleration - but it's automatic.  The longer you hold the 
button down, the faster it goes.  I don't think the auto acceleration points 
are quite correct (too long get get up to speed and top speed isn't quick 
enough to seek through long tracks), and there lies the problem - automatic 
acceleration will not be tailored to suit everyone.

I think manual acceleration is better, because there is more control to get to 
and stop at a desired point.  Quickly accelerate to skip a long distance, then 
deccelate when you think you are getting close to where you want to be (audio 
feedback is a necessity).
