No the transporter needs no transcoding at all. Things will only fall apart when you try to play or sync with the Reciever, I hope you do keep the reciever for multiroom purpose :) Feeding only the transporter will not put any strain on to the machine running SC. In fact i've tried a couple of days ago. I have no transporter but I tricked SqueezePlay to tell SC that it was a transporter and no transcoding was running on my server and the PC hosting SqueezePlay was recieving an 96kHz stream, they have som 24/96 at HD tracks i bought one of these.
The load on my server without trancoding is like 7% maybe a little more if I play with more players at the same time without transcoding I've played at 3 different players with 3 different tracks without an hitch. I think i can have even more players to. The tranquil is a real PC is'nt it ? put in a lot of ram in to it and will be even better. Intel Atom is "real" PC processor this machine is seams to be much faster than the one i'm using i can only have 1GB ram in my system If it can run some of the more common OS choices you can treat it pretty much like any other PC i think ? arent they available with pre installed SC ? I'm not familiar with tranquil, but i've seen treads with tranquil and Windows Home Server in same context. No doubt that somebody has reformatted the whole thing and loaded Linux on to it too. Do some asking around about that hardware in the 3rp party hardware forum. I've seen both tranquil and different brands of NAS discussed there, I frankly don't know exactly what NAS'es are suitable for SC, some tweakers in 3rd party have managed to run it on very strange machines, but that's not for everyone, stay with a solution that's is well maintained with regular upgrades and bug fixes and support try to use flac files as they lessen the bandwidth used on the network. Especially if you use wifi, its hard to tell if ones wifi will cope with 24/96 before you tried it. WAV files almost double the load on the network. This will of course not matter if you use ethernet cables -- Mnyb ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57429 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
