I want to agree to htrd, the warning is not strong enough. At least not
in current times where when talking of 'beta' the common mind thinks
of:
- Google Betas
- Game Development Betas
- Microsoft Betas
- former 7.4 SC versions which are heavily recommended in the forums as
'its the best release ever'

It also doesn't make sense to discuss if the words are strong enough or
not. I never saw so many 'unhappy 7.4'-post pop up before in the
common-forums (I'm not very long here, but before I purchased I read a
lot here, to see how things are going).

If unhappy customers regularly turn up outside the dev-forums, this is
a marketing disaster (because new customers ARE reading forums or just
simply google for 'duet + problems'). If just one current customer
couldn't distinguish between beta + production (and I don't blame
anyone) and make his experiences a comment on amazon ... then nobody is
helped.
And then its also to late to discuss if people are just to dumb to
understand the 'real and truth' meaning of 'beta'.

It's soooo easy to make the meaning more clear. Call it unstable or
alpha, put in some more fearsome words ('it can and WILL SOMETIMES break
your environment'), yeah put a banner there, maybe even a warning on
install, whatever ...

The wiki is updated in 10minutes, an extra message in the installer
<30min ! There is just no reason not to do it.
Some people (those who always knew what they did) might find it silly
to do so - but for the rest of us this will help.

Man - look at
http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/The_LinkStation_firmware_flasher -
these guys don't have to fear anything because they are as unofficial as
one can be - and STILL they put in a big warning.
I didn't dare to complain to them, when I bricked my linksstation *doh*
:) ... but I don't know - here at the squeezebox-forum I feel that I
have a (small) right to do so, because I wasn't warned 'enough' and
everyone recommend that 7.4 was nice stuff.
I even don't like my own attitude about complaining :) - but it is as
it is.

So as a conclusion: you can pretend that the current warning is enough
over and over - this won't help on the long run when every day there are
two new posts of unaware people which complain about 7.4.
