Adding my voice to this discussion, FWIW (and some of the discussion in
this thread suggests that the decision is so cast in stone that WIW is
*nothing* to those making the decisions) this issue is the primary
reason I'm not switching from 7.3, despite liking some of the 7.4
enhancements.  

Right now, the UI design philosophy appears to be to cripple older
generation devices because of the simplistic UI model of the shiny new
touchscreen devices.  Touch as a UI is barely beyond infancy, though. 
As it matures support of more gestures will become commonplace and the
current generation touch will look quaint and antiquated.  Logitech
needs to take the long view here.  Device UIs already are heterogeneous
and are going to remain so as future generation devices are designed. 
One size fits all doesn't cut it, and that isn't going to change.
