To my thinking, it's who 'owns' the album. It's mostly for dealing
with albums that have varied artist lineups, including guest artists.
Normally, those albums would be viewed as VA albums, since the artists
aren't the same on all tracks. I think the concept of who owns the
album is used for two purposes: 1) the artist name that is displayed in
the album's by-line in album listings and 2) the artist used when
sorting albums by artist name.

If I have a 'duet' album:

TRACK=1
TITLE=The Lady Is A Tramp
ALBUM=Duets
ARTIST=Frank Sinatra
ARTIST=Luther Vandros

TRACK=2
TITLE=What Now My Love
ALBUM=Duets
ARTIST=Frank Sinatra
ARTIST=Aretha Franklin

etc...

This would be considered a VA album by the logic that says an album
with differing artists is a compilation. I could add a COMPILATION=0
tag to force the album to not be considered a compilation, but then
it's anyone's guess as to who the album will be attributed to. So by
adding ALBUMARTIST=Frank Sinatra, it makes this a Frank Sinatra album
and not a VA album.
