>as i said, SBS is drawing a conclusion about comp status based on AA >tags. No.
It's a post tag-scanning phase where SBS draws a conclusion about comp status only when the compilation status is undefined and there a multiple possible album artists inferred from the songs on the album. It's not based on AA tags - which is JUST implicitly defining the album artist. >in one case, if they are present, then its a blanket 'not a comp.' Also not true; there can be an AA and a Compilation tag present. >and btw, its much more precise when the user can take total control >over SBS, then have to conform to the whims of SBS designers. > Users can do that already, by entering better tags, just as the same as expected by all other apps. >and the devs can either do them or not. but whats the big harm if they >do??? this is what you can't explain. there is no harm as long as the >user can leave it all blank, and thereby defeat the function. > Because there's costs involved. Dev time, more chance of errors, worse performance, harder to maintain. And, because there's limited settings for TinySBS (Touch embedded SBS), there wouldn't be options for this sort of thing. >yet you want to be the grinch and deny the ability to everyone b/c you >don't like it. its selfish. > Oh come on. There's no-one else suggesting it would be a good idea that solves an issue for many people. >as of right now, they have a hardcoded system that i would think you >would hate and want changed. > As of right now, I'm not even sure whether there have been any changes. I just had a look at the code in 7.6, and couldn't see anything in the runScanPostProcessing section, nor could I find anything of interest when I looked for things that use the VariousArtistsString preference. I looked at the code where it usually detects compilations, and it looks much the same. So I created a compilation album that has AA=Various Artists and no compilation tag and added it to a USB memory stick. I loaded it on Tiny SBS. I tried Browse Artists, and the album didn't appear within Various Artists. i.e. it wasn't detected as a compilation album. _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
