Ah, okay that would make sense. If Autoscan was disabled, no initial scan at
startup.

There are times when I am adding music, editing tags, etc, when I don't want
the library to be scanned.

Yes it was.

And anything else that affects a scan. eg. disabled iTunes integration, set
MusicIP to get mixable status only, set music library settings, etc.

Ah, I didn't know that happens - I've never run the installer.

The problems were:
1. Initial scan without reporting it was scanning.
2. It did an iTunes import and MusicIP import, which I didn't want.
3. This took ages (longer than a scan in 7.5 for me).
4. Scan completed after about an hour, but I couldn't see anything. Disk
activity suggested that another scan was going on, but couldn't tell for sure
(nothing in log either).

I was aware that it would probably do an initial scan, but my "My Music" folder
is empty, so was expecting a quick scan with no content. However, half my
library is in iTunes and all my library is is MusicIP, so it scanned both of
those, which took a lot of time, and then seemed to do some kind of artwork
import from iTunes, which seemed to take a long time too.

I mainly use iTunes for Podcasts. Does iTunes import pick up podcasts? I
probably updated podcasts whilst it was scanning, and therefore the iTunes
library would have been updated, and SBS auto rescan would have started another
scan (checking everything in the iTunes library to work out what had changed?).
