artist instead of automatic detection of compilation albums.
In my mind it's a good thing that you don't have to put extra
information in tags that doesn't make sense, for example COMPILATION
and ALBUMARTIST="Various Artists" tags. So if SBS already handles this
automatically, I'm not sure it's worth to change the scanning process
to remove it. Or is there a huge performance issue in large libraries ?
In my library it's like 1% of the scanning time so the performance isn't
a good argument for me.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something but what's the difference between
the current "Artists" menu in SBS (with "Group compilation albums
together" option enabled) and the "Album Artists" menu in RockBox,
Sansa Fuze and similar software ? Aren't they working the same way ?
If there are any differences, does the SBS solution do a better or
worse job as an "Album Artists" menu ?
The missing part is the "All Artists" menu which doesn't exist in SBS
unless you disable the "Group compilation albums together" option. As
mentioned earlier, an "All Artists" menu would be possible to implement
without changing any scanning logic. It would probably be pretty simple
to make a third party "All Artists" plugin that just adds this menu
without the need to use Custom Browse and more advanced solutions. Let
me know is this would be of interest and I can take a closer look if it
would be possible to accomplish something simple as a plugin.
