Find somewhere else centralized to put my files then. Where I can manage these files as easily as I do currently on my local machine. Adding, removing, renaming, modifying etc near instantly for free. The Squeezebox moto is "free your music". It is about your music, basically that means your local files currently. It is about freeing it, eg play your music where you want it. Until we have countries with ultra fast internet services with unlimited quotas for dirt cheap the media library will be local on some form of server, serving it out to endpoints. The server is a core part in the setup. In a perfect world Squeezebox players could just use existing network transport technology like Windows shares or UPnP removing the need to install a separate server app but all in all SBS proves to be the simplest way for Logitech to deploy this technology. The market Squeezebox is in and after is simple. Distribution, management and playback of users media libraries. Apparently up to 40% of users that feel they have a need for this type of setup have proven to be users running a Linux server. Perhaps the mass market don't really care for what Squeezebox offers and would prefer one of the other million already catered for options. Eg cd player, ipod attached to headphones or some speaker dock, a laptop, a PC, etc etc. Squeezebox has successfully been doing its thing above all the other networked media players for a long time now. The computer server cant be removed. You may as well say you want to remove the engine from the car to simplify it. I cant even say it sounds good on paper, it simply sounds like you are not even considering what you are trying to achieve in the long run. "We must remove the engine! It is heavy, ugly, costs lots of money to make, costs lots of money to run and dirty" -- bits ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bits's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13375 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89143 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
