as I said to Erland, my link to compilations in artist lists (be they album artists, all artists, whatever) would NOT be called "Various Artists" but rather "Home > Compilations" it would just be available -in the same places- where "Various Artists" is in 7.8 and below. I would do this so people who were used to the current way could still do it the way they are used to, just via a different named link, and that would make everything clear and transparent even to novice users as to what all was going on in practical use as well as under the hood.
