Same thing just happened to me. In my case, I had just restored a full time machine backup to an external HD (as my internal HD is failing), once I did LMS wouldn't start. I tried removing and reinstalling LMS, even tried reinstalling OS X from Recovery. Changing the permissions to RW for system, staff and everyone fixed the problem.
