Hi forum:

I've recently upgraded, at last, to 7.9, and begun to explore its
capabilities. This has led me to discover some inconsistencies in my
collection with regard to COMPOSER.

The bulk of my collection is FLAC/cuesheet, converted from CD by EAC
(various versions).

It appears that different versions of EAC handle COMPOSER differently.
The latest (1.1) seems to generate the tag as 'COMPOSER "Bach, J.S."',
not 'REM COMPOSER "Bach, J.S."'. However, a few items in my collection
seem to have been handled as REM COMPOSER (I think by other versions of
EAC). While I haven't spelunked the LMS code, it appears that 'REM
COMPOSER' is parsed but 'COMPOSER' isn't. So I have a lot of COMPOSER
entries that aren't showing up in LMS's list of composers.

This led me down the rabbit hole of trying to determine which is
correct. Eventually I arrived at Appendix A of an ancient CDRWIN User's
Guide. By virtue of the fact that COMPOSER is not explicitly documented
there, I read between the lines that it should be stored as REM
COMPOSER, thus LMS 7.9's parsing is right.

However, down another tunnel I found that MMC-3's definition of CD-TEXT
provides explicit support for COMPOSER, which may explain why EAC 1.1
isn't using REM (or maybe is irrelevant).

So my question, which isn't exactly a 7.9 beta one and yet relates to
7.9 beta, is whether 7.9 is correct in only parsing REM COMPOSER in
cuesheets and ignoring COMPOSER. (If it is, I'll have to write a little
program to navigate my collection, open up every cuesheet, and insert
REM in front of COMPOSER if it isn't there. Not a huge big deal, but I'm
rusty, and I also don't want to break anything if what EAC 1.1 is doing
is right.)

(And yes, I should probably cross the bridge of embedding the cuesheet
metadata in the FLAC files. But that's another project, and the
simplicity of text files makes it really easy to fix errors as I spot
them.)

I apologize if this is a newby question, but I haven't been able to find
a definitive answer anywhere, and if anyone can give me one, it's
probably someone on this forum.
