Yes, panel grouping was one of the nicest things in 2.4x. I also got the feeling that 2.5 dropped (at least by now) some nice gui features and concept and reduced more to a standard set of features well known from established mainstream gui toolkits.
What I also dislike are the new check boxes, I found the color coding for different buttons in 2.4 revolutionary, having buttons, which just trigger an action, can be toggled and can be grouped to a mutual exclusive selection.
