If you like Lord of the Rings, the two player game Lord of the Rings, the Confrontation is fun and the rules are pretty easy to grasp. It also plays quickly.
I second the recommendation for Cuba if you like Puerto Rico. It's definitely a challenging game. Caylus will definitely make your brain explode, but if you're looking for a good introduction to that type of game, Pillars of the Earth is fun, plays quickly, and is good with two players (I've heard it referred to as "Caylus Lite").
