Huh, I'd say exactly the opposite. Though I really like both of them. I play Caylus more often, but I find that I have to think a lot more in T&E. I would say that in Caylus you have to think "deeper" i.e. further ahead; since there is no luck you can go very far down the "if he does this, I'll do this, but if he does this, I'll do this" tree, especially if playing with 2 or 3. In Tigris and Euphrates you have to think "wider". The future is more obscured because of the randomness of the tile draws, but there are generally far more options for you at any given time. If you like Puerto Rico, I think Caylus is a more natural transition. Role selection and worker placement are basically similar mechanics, and both games focus on gathering resources and turning them into victory points through one mechanism or another. War of the Ring is pretty cool, but it is way different. Have you played games like Axis and Allies or Risk? If you enjoy those and wouldn't mind something a bit deeper, War of the Ring is probably a good fit.
