The only people being rude in this thread are the people who are busy
attacking anyone who suggests a specific way in which things could be
better. People like you, basically.
Yes, if things are set up poorly, serving a site like BGG in a
readonly backup mode is moderately annoying, but that's just a reason
to not set them up again like this when you have an opportunity to
change things around like today's downtime.
In terms of the money, I can't help but think that the people talking
about Rockefeller and Gates-level investment have no practical
experience in this. It's a small delta in hosting space, not terribly
impressive hardware obviously zero additional cost in bandwidth and
the most complex part is designing the systems so that it's possible.
Yes, there's a tradeoff, but it's fairly clear that most of the people
screaming in defence of the status quo aren't considering it
rationally.

I blame the country demographics involved. Oh, and people (like
yourself) who enjoy reacting violently to any critical comment. Why do
