One fundamental reason -- money. There is no compelling reason to spend the money to maintain a backup that is freely available to everyone via google's cache and the WayBack machine. This is a simple Cost-to-Benefit analysis, and it's less expensive to lose revenue for a day or two than to make the investment in the additional hardware and software resources required to maintain a second copy. Business is business after all. There are some fine alternative sites that you can go to in the interim, and you might find it refreshing to see a different perspective on the same topic.
