Fwiw, this erratic behavior is a fairly recent development. It used to
be pretty reliable, with an occasional couple hours of downtime every
couple of months.

As others have pointed out, BGG has several full-time staff, so it is
not a question of "day jobs". It seems they have recently undertaken
some fairly ambitious front-end and back-end redesigns, and perhaps it
has impacted them to a greater degree than they anticipated. Hopefully
they will get their issues sorted out soon.
