Doesn't the menu item work? It should do the same thing as this
script.

Nope. Actually BD hangs.
my directory is /Users/dan/Library/Application Support/
LyX-1.6/.lyxpipe

Are you sure it's not .lyxpipe.in? Because that was the name used by
older versions, and the one BibDesk is looking for.
no way to save the path to .lyxpipe.in in lyx prefs

I really mean the actual file name, I get the impression that the LyX preference is only a base name, not the real file name. Though what makes this even more annoying is that it's a hidden file, so you won't see it with Finder.

See if the attached script works.
I doesn't work. Maybe it doesn't point to the correct directory that is: /Users/dan/Library/Application Support/

I always thought using pipes is a rather fragile way of handling this,
and using various system dependent versions is even worse. Moreover,
the pipe regularly fails, leaving BibDesk to hang. Clearly I consider
this a LyX bug, but it affects mainly BibDesk.

BTW, to get rid of the hang, you could remove any old lyxpipes hanging
around.
tried, still hangs
