From what I read, this is not a new problem.

I'm using Bibdesk 1.3.20 on OSX 10.5.7, with data from SAO/NASA ADS

I'm seeing the error in two forms:

(1) While I get the error message 'Tex preview generation failed', it
does generate a preview. This happens for every record whether selected
individually or in a group, except when the second error form occurs
(below).

The log includes the following:

.....

(./bibpreview.bbl
! Undefined control sequence.
l.9 \newblock {\em \apjs
                         }, 167:177--200, Dec. 2006.
The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have
misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct
spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue,
and I'll forget about whatever was undefined.

)

......

(2) The second form doesn't generate a preview, just the message: '*****
ERROR: unable to create preview *****'

The is accompanied in the log by:

.....

        BIBINPUTS = "(null)"
        BSTINPUTS = "(null)"

........

I've only found (so far) one record that triggers the second error, and
it does so whether selected by itself or in a group.

All of my bibtex records are copied from the SAO/NASA ADS database and
pasted into Bibdesk.

The citation reference that causes the second form of the error is
2006ApJ...647..244D  (from ADS)

A typical reference that causes the first error form is
2006ApJS..167..177D (from ADS)

The references can be found using the above citation refs in the search
page at http://adsabs.harvard.edu/basic_search.html

I have copied, in every case, the bibtex data from the link to 'Bibtex
entry for this abstract' from the main record page.
