The source is the Bibtex link on any of the records in SAO/ADS, for example http://tinyurl.com/okwq4u The ADS site says some of the Bibtex entries do need editing, but since the preview seems to be choking on entries like {\apjs} I'm pretty sure the problem in this case is not having the right style available. The SO/ADS site also says it uses the AASTeX package, which appears to be installed on my system. What I don't know is how Bibdesk calls Latex to render the preview. So I don't know what to change in order to make the style available. In other words, is it a Latex config problem or a Bibdesk one? [The second error type may be an error in the ADS bibtex entry. I'll compare different entries (those that sort of work, those that don't) to see if there's a pattern.] > >> So that transforms my question to: >> >> (a) What style do I need to use for bibtext and > > You don't 'need' anything. But where do I define it so that Bibdesk's preview process finds the definition? > Best is to put .sty files in a standard location where tex can find > it. However where this is depends on your tex distribution... in my > case it's in ~/Library/texmf/tex. ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex/misc has what appears to be the standard set of .sty files, including the natbib.sty used by the AASTeX package. I also have what appears to be the same .sty files available under the directory /usr/local/texlive/2008/texmf-dist/tex/latex/...
