The proxy icon is the little PDF icon in the titlebar of the panel you see when 
you use "TeX Preview," and that is also the log tab.  I'm not actually sure 
what's going on in your case.

Reading the code more carefully, the log doesn't get appended, in spite of the 
comments in the code and what the error message itself says in that case 
(oops).  However, that's not the error case you're seeing, based on the 
message.  It looks like the latex2rtf preview failed...is that what you're 
showing in the preview?
