Hey John, Way back on Friday, May 03, 2002, 8:32:12 AM, you said something like:
>> TJU's arguments about saving lives are bogus, btw. Those people could >> as easily by driving on, say, Market, where a right turn is >> legal. Nothing particularly favors Chestnut, except that drivers would >> like to believe that they have preemptive rights to all roads at all >> times. JB> If TJU were really concerned about safety they would have pushed to leave JB> Chestnut Street as a transitway, since it offered emergency vehicles a JB> lightly impeded route across town. JB> John Trying to make the turns to get to the emergency room is troublesome because if you are driving from the south you must turn up to Market if you don't use Chestnut. If you are coming from the east on Market, there are no left turns. When driving a screaming patient, the restrictions seem absurd. However, the rest of the roadway does not lead to emergency services & does not need the right turn. The article was unclear if Chestnut would no longer have a bike only lane or if it would just allow right turns from it. The city needs some sort of East-West bike route & as someone who does a lot of biking between the easternmost end of center city to west philly, I appreciate Chestnut's bike lane. --Mike mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Bicycle Coalition of the Delaware Valley list named "bike."
