These are the most
recent definitions of a moped. The new stipulation is that with pedals,
the engine can be up to 130cc's. A moped without pedals must have a
smaller engine at 50cc's or less. Any moped-look-alikes that aren't
registered as mopeds are probably motorcycles, based on their engine
size. On campus, we occasionally see these attempting to park as
mopeds. We "get rid of them", so to speak, by issuing a parking
ticket.

(b) A Type 1 motorcycle with an automatic transmission and an engine certified by the manufacturer at not more than 50 cubic centimeters or an equivalent power unit.
