Detecting quiet cars (personally, I don't think there's any such thing as one
that's TOO quiet in our UW/Campus Drive noise-infested 'hood) is another reason
to use a rear-view mirror. I feel imperiled without one.

Hybrids are one key to cleaner air, if enough people change over to them.
Currently, all standard vehicles are endangering cyclist's health by their
emissions, whereas only a tiny percentage are stealthy hybrids that prompt more
alertness.

It's the same problem with bikes. Pedestrians step out of me quite
often because they didn't hear me coming. Except when I am on
my winter rust bucket.
