Just to be clear, I wasn't picking on you. It was more a comment on
behavior I see on the paths on a regular basis. Far too many bicyclists
do NOT give adequate warning, do NOT slow down so as not to scare the
begeezus out of walkers and children, and DO try to pass when there
really isn't space.
The way I explain it is to say, "You as a bicyclist (no, not you
personally, Steve) know what it's like to be passed way too fast and too
close by a car on the road. Well, that's what it feels like to a
pedestrian when we pass too fast or too close on the path."
